Bond adequacy check

Enter a plugging bond amount and the wells it stands behind. You get the estimated plugging liability, about what share of it the bond covers, and how confident the figure is.

Where we have estimates today. Statewide estimates for 9 states: Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Wyoming. Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas are not yet covered: records are on file, but no statewide estimate passes testing. 4 Texas counties and 2 Oklahoma counties do pass on their own and are included in Pro and in portfolio reports where a well matches; no Kansas county does. Wells in any other state cannot be estimated yet, and a report says so for each of them.

Wells, by state (up to four rows), or upload a CSV below.

What this uses, and what it leaves out

The free check uses the public statewide median and typical range for each state, all well types together. County, depth-band and well-type detail, which can move a figure a lot, is part of Pro and of the paid portfolio liability report, which prices each well. Well type is accepted here but does not change the free figure.

Figures are benchmarks from costs of publicly funded orphan-well plugging, not a quote, an engineering opinion or advice about any bond. Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas are not covered statewide; those wells are listed as not estimated. Free limits: 10 checks a day, 30 with a free account.
