What these terms cover

These terms govern use of pluggingindex.com (the Site), the figures, tables, charts, downloads and estimates published on it (the Figures), and paid products offered through it. By using the Site you accept these terms.

Free use of the public Figures

You may use the Figures that the Site publishes without an account, including state medians, the national Plugging Cost Index, guides and single-well estimates, free of charge for non-commercial and editorial purposes, provided you cite Plugging Index Research and pluggingindex.com and the data date shown. Non-commercial and editorial purposes mean research, teaching, journalism and public-interest work that is not offered for sale and does not form part of a product or service sold to others.

What needs a licence

Commercial use of the Figures, bulk download or systematic copying of the Figures, and redistribution of the Figures or any substantial part of them, in any form, require a written data licence from Plugging Index Research. Commercial use includes use inside a product, service, report, bid, appraisal, opinion or financial assurance that is provided to a client or sold. Automated retrieval of pages or endpoints, other than by search-engine crawlers that obey robots.txt, is a bulk download for this purpose.

Paid accounts and reports

Pro gives one named user access to the detail Figures (county, depth band and well type) and unlimited single-well estimates for as long as the subscription is paid. A portfolio report is a one-off report for the list of wells you upload. Detail Figures and reports are for your own internal use; you may not share, resell or republish them or provide access to them to others without a data licence. A portfolio report may be given to your own clients or regulators as part of your work for them, in full and with its data date, methodology version and limitations.

Payments

Payments are taken by a third-party payment processor. Subscriptions renew monthly until cancelled. Refund terms: [TO BE SET BY COUNSEL AND THE OWNER]. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax that applies.

The Figures are not advice

The Figures are reported costs of publicly funded plugging of mostly old, shallow orphan wells. They are not a quote, a bid, an engineering estimate, an appraisal or professional advice. They do not describe deep, horizontal or operator-plugged wells. Read the limitations in the methodology before relying on any Figure. Use of a Figure in a financial statement, bond, financial assurance or regulatory filing is at your own risk and judgement.

No warranty; limit of liability

The Site and the Figures are provided as they are, without warranty of any kind. To the extent the law allows, Plugging Index Research is not liable for loss arising from use of the Site or the Figures, and its total liability is limited to the amount you paid in the twelve months before the claim. Accounts and privacy

Keep your sign-in details private. We may suspend an account that is shared, used to scrape the Site, or used in breach of these terms. We store your email address and the lists of wells you upload, to provide the service. See the privacy page.

Source data

The Figures are derived from US federal public-domain records and other sources whose terms allow commercial use, as listed in the methodology. Plugging Index Research claims rights in its selection, testing, grading and presentation of that data, and in the Site, and not in the underlying public records.
