Four ways to put the data to work. Each ends in a short request form; we reply by hand, and nothing is charged online.

Where we have estimates today. Statewide estimates for 9 states: Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Wyoming. Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas are not yet covered: records are on file, but no statewide estimate passes testing. 4 Texas counties and 2 Oklahoma counties do pass on their own and are included in Pro and in portfolio reports where a well matches; no Kansas county does. Wells in any other state cannot be estimated yet, and a report says so for each of them.

Expert liability report

A written report for a bankruptcy, restructuring, acquisition or dispute, where the plugging liability must be explained and defended.

  • The estimate for the wells in question, with the methodology, the assumptions and the limits stated in plain terms.
  • How each figure was tested, what the data cannot support, and sensitivity to the choices made.
  • Scope and price agreed in writing before work starts. This is not expert testimony, an engineering or appraisal opinion, or legal advice unless a separate written agreement says otherwise.

  • Statewide, county, well-type and depth-band estimates with their confidence ratings and sample sizes, and the Plugging Cost Index.

  • The free CSVs on Data & API stay free for non-commercial and editorial use with citation.

Free

Plugging contractors are listed in the public directory, built from public federal plugging awards. A free basic listing lets you correct or add your company's name, states and website.

  • Free basic listing now. Featured listings and lead referrals are planned but not available yet.
  • Cost reports from contractors earn free Pro access once verified (report a cost).

What the figures are, and are not

Every figure is a reported cost of publicly funded plugging, tested on wells left out of the calculation; the typical miss is shown with each figure (high confidence typically within 25%, moderate within 40%). We make no accuracy claim beyond those tests. The records are mostly old, shallow orphan wells, not quotes or professional advice, and not deep or horizontal wells. See the limitations and the terms (draft). Samples are marked "Sample" and use real public records with identifiers withheld.
